Hokkaido, Japan Jan 6-23, 2024
In January of 2024 we will be hosting a trip to Hokkaido Japan.
With Sapporo as our “take off point” we plan to visit Niseko, Asahikawa, Furano and the rural mountainous areas surrounding these towns & cities.  Furano and the surrounding area receives an average snowfall of 9m and is known for its cold temperatures.  This is due to the cold westerly flow of Siberian air mixing with the moisture of the Sea Of Japan and unloading on the mountains & volcanoes of Hokkaido.  This is where some of the deepest & coldest dry powder on earth can be found!   Most of the time we will be touring in remote backcountry areas far from any ski resorts.  Although we do plan to use the ropeway & chairlifts on certain days or if the snow gets too deep to provide quick access to upper elevation ski touring.  The high concentration of volcanoes on Hokkaido are the reason for all the geothermal activity & countless natural hot spring onsen.  All of the accommodations that are being arranged have traditional Japanese onsen for us to enjoy after our ski days.  The trip goal is not only to experience some of the deepest powder skiing & riding on earth, we also aim to explore Japanese culture, cuisine & onsen.  This will be an incredible trip!
