Fire 🔥 & Ice 🧊 Iceland's mountains were for Fire 🔥 & Ice 🧊
Iceland's mountains were formed by a combination of intense volcanic activity and slow erosion by glaciers. Essentially, volcanoes built the mountains, and glaciers carved them.

1. Volcanic Building (Fire)
Iceland is sitting on top of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, a place where two massive tectonic plates (North American and Eurasian) are pulling apart.

Magma Rising: As the plates separate, magma rises from deep within the Earth to fill the gap.

Volcano Formation: This constant lava flow builds up volcanoes and mountain ranges over millions of years.

Flat-Topped Mountains (Tuya): During the Ice Age, volcanoes erupted under thick ice sheets. The lava couldn't break through to the surface, so it spread out underneath, creating flat-topped mountains known as tuyas (or stapi in Icelandic).

2. Glacial Carving (Ice)

While volcanoes built the land, glaciers did the shaping.

Carving Valleys: Huge glaciers moved across the land, carving out deep valleys and steep, narrow fjords.

This photo shows the avalanche mitigation structur This photo shows the avalanche mitigation structures on the mountain above Siglufjord in Northern Iceland. Notice the snow fences in the start zone and man-made deviation berm in the runout of the gully. The berm was designed to compliment the natural landscape. Communities in the Northern Fjords of Iceland have a long history of managing overhead avalanche hazards.

Imagine a village on an island surrounded by snow Imagine a village on an island surrounded by snow capped mountains in the Arctic Ocean. The village has a community ski jump in the heart of town, a water slide & geo thermal pools, a skiers dream landscape of open alpine bowls & chutes in the backyard and some of the best tasting lamb you ever had. I won't go any further, this is not a dream, if it is, dont pinch me. I'd rather not wake up.
Big Thanks!

April 23, 2026 First day of Summer in Iceland Also April 23, 2026
First day of Summer in Iceland
Also first day of Harpa in the Old Icelandic Calander.
According to folk belief, a good summer would be sure to ensue if the temperature dropped below freezing right before the first day of summer. People would place a bowl of water outside for the night and hope that it would freeze.
